Assistant Professor for Anglophone Cultural Studies
I am Assistant Professor for Anglophone Cultural Studies at the Department of English and American Studies, University of Vienna. Previously I was Post-Doc Fellow at the Department of English and American Studies, Humboldt University, Berlin and at the Europa-Universität Flensburg, the Department of English and American Studies, University of Vienna and Visiting Professor at the Center for Advanced Media Studies, Johns Hopkins University. My research fields are primarily queer and feminist theory, popular culture, postsocialist, decolonial and disability studies. Currently, I am working on a research project focused on the construction of Russia's most vulnerable citizens within Western media.

Senior Post-Doc Fellow at the Department of English and American Studies, University of Vienna for the project " Rivals of the Past, Children of the Future: Localizing Russia within US National identity Formations from a Historical Perspective" (10/2019-09/2024).
Post-doctoral research fellow for American Studies at Europe University Flensburg and at Humboldt University Berlin (10/2018 - 09/2019). The project analyses media respresentations of Russia in contemporary US-American media.

Biography
Katharina is currently Assistant Professor for Anglophone Cultural Studies at the Department of English and American Studies, University of Vienna. Previously she was Post-Doc Fellow at the Department of English and American Studies at the Humboldt University in Berlin, the Department of English and American Studies at Europa-Universität Flensburg and Visiting Professor at the Center for Advanced Media Studies, Johns Hopkins University. She did research at the University of California, Berkeley, the Jordan Center for the Advanced Study of Russia at New York University and taught at Lomonossow University Moscow, State University St. Petersburg, and the University of Vienna, among others. She was Project Coordinator at the Gender Research Office at the University of Vienna from April 2008 to September 2015. Her research fields are primarily American Cultural Studies, American-Russian relations, queer and feminist theory, popular culture, postsocialist, decolonial and disability studies. Currently, she is working on a research project focused on the construction of Russia within Western thought from a historic perspective.
